1993 2200sc maxum top speed

hi,im new to this site hopefully im posting this in the right area,but im new to boating i got a 1993 2200sc maxum 5.7 ... it had a bent piston rod .we took out the motor got it back in everything good but i dont got no real speed i had 5 people on the boat pulling a tube and the fastest it would go was about 10 mph.. is this normal or does anyone have any input on what i shoud do...maybe the throtle cable ..well any help would be appreciated ..thank you

A Max load, Plus a tuber,..?? At what rpms,..??

i couldnt even tell you what rpms i was at..just seems to not get up and go really.. im new to boating so just trying to learn the ends and outs

I would start with the motor. Same basic idea as a car tuneup?
Timing set right? and advancing as it should.good compression,all cylinders firing.
Throttle opening all the way.
This boat should probably run close to 50mph lightly loaded.
If you read "read this first" at the top of the page it will help.
We will need prop size(usually under the prop nut), wot(wide open throttle)
rpm and gps speed.If your not a boater you and yours should take a safe boating course. happy boating.

thanks steelespike,,i have taken the boating class .well ive been around them im just new to owning one myself..my uncle builds stock car race cars hes the one that changed the piston out..and im pretty good with somewhat mechanics,so i put it all back together,,im just wondering if maybe the prop is wrong,maybe the trotle cable is not fully ajusted.or should i put one of those hydro stabalizers... just trying to do it myself so i dont gotta pay some one to fine tune ,but if i have to then thats what ill do...but for the motor its newly rebuilt..thanks for your time ima try to read up on the throttle cable maybe its just not going wot..if you have any ideas ... thanks again

Checking the throttle is pretty simple.With the motor off in forword gear open throttle. Look down the carb. Throttle plates should be wide open.I never have done much work on an I/O.Assuming the cable is in good shape the the adjustment is probavbly right at the carb.
Look near the base of the blades or under the prop nut for numbers usually _ _ X _ _.
diameter X pitch. Pitch is the key number.
I'll see if I can have the moderators to move this to the I/O section.I think your dealing with a motor/controls issue. When you get the prop size and performance figures I asked for post ytem in the prop section.You can let us know the prop size here in this post.We'll let you know if it seems right.

This really sounds like an engine problem. Gonna move it to Other I/Os until engine is identified.

that should be a 21 pitch prop.

With that many people and pulling a tube it may not want to plane out.

your valve cover should state the hp of the engine.

Is your carb a 2bbl or 4bbl?

its a 4bbl carb..do you think maybe a hydro stabalizer would help the planing out,i did notice it wouldnt really plane out ...and i looked at the throttle cable and it wasnt really goint to wot,so im try that and take it out this weekend again and see what happens...do you recommend a dif prop or should this one be good ..and its 260 hp
