Took my boat out today and ran for about 2 hrs. Boat ran good and on the way back my girlfriend and I decided to idle through a local marina. We probably idled for about 30 mins and when I wen to open the motor up it started skipping and would not open up.

Is it possible to foul a plug on an oil injected and fuel injected engine?

On lake now, just fouled another new set of plugs. Also oil tank getting low again. Could oil pump be pumping too much? Plugs have oil on then when I oil them out? Should I try to premix temporarily? if so how do I plug off oil pump? Please help

Usual fault is the check/relief valve feeding the boat tank runs up too much pressure. Also, there's a linkage adjustment on the oil pump that links it with throttle. I think if it falls off, the oil pump goes nuts on oil.

Took back to shop and mechanic checked engine again. He told me motor may be vapor locked due to hot weather. Is this common on efi?

I've found a couple of motors where someone had reinstalled the linkage incorrectly. When the linkage comes off the pump has a spring that opens the flow to WOT, the pump lever must be turned around to the other side, almost 180 before reconnecting the linkage. Otherwise the pump is wide open at idle and turns down as throttle is applied.

Bradley is describing the motor tank running low on oil. If his pump is pumping too much oil he still has a problem with the main tank not refilling the motor tank.

Re: 1993 175 EFI XRI Fouled Plug?

Ok guys I think I may have solved this mystery. Original problem was fouled plugs, after replacing plugs yesterday boat ran great then after oil alarm went off boat wouldn't open up so naturally I thought plugs were fouled again. Took boat back to shop, mechanic checked motor and noticed electric fuel pump ran for about one minute. He said this was too long and that the motor may be vapor locked. While motor was running he opened the gas cap and I could hear the motor"pick up". Everything else checked out, spark, fuel pressure, compression. Took boat to lake and it ran like a champ!

Now that still leaves the issue with the oil tank, I took the pickup tube out of the main tank and noticed it had sludge on the bottom of it. Cleaned off sludge, cracked open cap on motor tank and started pumping oil every where. Boat ran for two to three hours with no issue. I am going to try it out again today and see.

Thanx every one for your help
