Hi, while getting ready for a lake test for one issue I think I have another.
I was running the motor in a tank instead of muffs because I was checking an idling issue and wanted exhaust back pressure . I keep fresh water running in the tank when I do this. Anyway I noticed water coming up from around where the shift rod comes out of the lower unit. Also there’s a hole directly in front of that area and water was shooting out of it more than the tale tail. There’s water coming out of the upper exhaust port pretty good as well. The motor was running just under operating temperature with the cool water from the hose in the tank but the tale tail had kind of a weak stream. Thermostat was replaced not long ago. I’ve been turning wrenches for a long time but this is my first outboard. Ive done a lot of work to get it running and have really been enjoying it. That being said the first thing I did was replace the water pump and change the lower unit oil. That’s the extent of my lower unit knowledge. Is a seal out , problem with the water tube maybe? I’m going to pull the lower unit tomorrow. It maybe nothing but I don’t think it’s supposed to come out around the shift rod. Any ideas or advice will be much appreciated. Thanks

Update: After doing research all of the above seems to be normal. I’ve got a lot to learn about the lower unit and have learned more of the water circulating. Sorry for pushing the panic button. Thanks everyone.
