Hello

Hope someone can help.
I have been getting some starting issues which have lead me to belive the engine is not charging the cranking battery sufficiently.
With a multimeter across battery terminals at idle it reads 12.7v it rises to 13v when increasing revs to 5000rpm.
After a bit of reading I went looking for the rectifier to find its location on engine to test but it looks to have been removed. The engine is fairly new to me.

My question is it possible for the battery to receive charge with rectifier removed?
Should I be seeing 13v with it removed?
And why would someone removed it?
Thanks David

According to the schematic drawing the rectifier/regulator should be located where I've marked with orange.
Has anyone got the same year engine they could shed some light on my issue.

Thanks David

I would trace the wires from under the flywheel from the lighting coil/stater that furnishes ac power/voltage all the way to where it eventually heads to battery.

maybe the rectifier/regulator failed, and they just bypassed it sending Ac to the battery

Hello

Thank you for your reply.
So I'm guessing trying to charge a Dc battery with Ac isnt a good thing.
I will trace wires back from stator to see what I find.
Thanks Again. David

Likely a wise idea to fit a rectifier / voltage regulator in there.----If Suzuki can not supply one , than others can be fitted.

Managed to find the old rectifier and swap out for a new one. Now charging battery. Thanks for your help.
