Can anyone help???

I have had problems with my starter in the past so I ripped it all apart cleaned and greased it and put it back...same problem, Jeff Walkowiak helped me before because it was just clicking when you engage the starter and told me to check the connections turned out the battery was low and needed charged...when you engage the starter it acts like it is not engaging with the motor and runs on and generally sounds terrible but if you play with it long enough it will engage and the motor will start...any ideas

replace the bendex gear on the end also be sure the center shaft did not detach itself from the windings. I had a new starter that worked fine off the engine but refused to turn over the engine when installed, I took it to the starter company they said it was fine but it kept doing the same thing. I finally checked the center shaft and found that it turned free from the rest of the armature, replaced the armature and it finally worked.

Thanks Rich and Jenn

When you push the button sometimes it turns the engine over other times it doesn't engage with the motor and sounds like its running 100mph then if you let off the button and try it again it will engage with the engine, so you think it's the selenoid relay huh? Where is that on the starter?

Thanks,
Skipper
