1992 remote - 1977 Johnson

I just bought a 1977 115 Johnson. The wiring harness, or big red plug on the powerhead, plugs into my 1992 remote's big red plug. When I turn the key the starter solenoid clicks,but nothing happens. Any ideas????

Can I test the solenoid somehow????

quick first thought is check the battery and cables.
