I am getting a clunking noise from outdrive/engine particularly when going over 25 mph in my 1992 Four Winns Horizon 200. I was also getting high RPM's. Former owner put on a new outdrive 2 years ago and my mechanic said the gears were not aligned properly. He tightened them up but the engine or outdrive still knocks occasionally but the RPM issue has been resolved. Other than that the engine runs great. My mechanic said the gears will probably fail in the next 2-3 years. He said the gears are slipping due to the improper alignment. Does this sound right? Is there anything I can do now. Mechanic says no. Anyone with similar problems?
