1992 Nissan 5, Replaced Impeller, Check Port Pumps Air

I just replaced the impeller on my 1992 Nissan 5 hp. Ran the engine in a bucket of water. The cooling water check port pumps warm air but no water. Waited 10 minutes but no water, just warmer (hot) air.<br /><br />Any ideas or suggestions?

First guess is that the water pickup tube isn't mated with the lower unit properly. This can happen when you push the lower unit up to reconnect. You need to be sure the metal tube fits into the rubber grommet to send water to the powerhead.
