Hello,
I have a 92 Johnson tracker 60hp 3 cyl it has the oil injector mounted on it and generally works just fine. However I have had a few incidents where after idling into a no wake zone for 4 or 5 minutes or trying to slowly crawl along using my side imaging I will get a audible alarm 2sec on 2 sec off indicating no oil is being delivered. I have healthy smoke coming from the exhaust and if I bring the boat up like I am trying to get it up on plane the alarm stops instantly.
I have squeezed the ball on the oil line when this happens and it's rock hard.
I have pulled the res cover and checked the float for operation and it works just fine, it will give me a different alarm like 2 sec on and 20 seconds off for a low res situation.
I have a healthy pee stream coming from the motor and the motor runs great all day everyday except for this weird alarm every now and then. After this alarm has gone off I have run the boat for miles at 5000 RPM without any issues.
Yesterday the wife and I hit the water at 4:30 and it was so foggy we could not see the end of the pier and everything was WET, started the boat ran for 2 to 3 minutes put it in reverse and backed up about 20 feet slowly and I got the alarm, shut down went bass fishing using the trolling motor. about 10:00 we started the gas motor and everything was fine for about 20 minutes as we were side image mapping at about 4 mph and suddenly I got the alarm again. gave it a little gas but then remembered this was a no wake lake until 11 and I shut it down and started fishing again. Right after the local lake cop was finished writing my citation for wake law violation  I checked the clock 3 times and it was after 11 so I started it back up no alarm and proceeded to cruise around for about an hour at anything between 5 and 25 Mph without an issue.
I am looking for any advice about how to troubleshoot this on and off issue. it has happened with a newly started cool motor and also after running across the lake and then slowing to a no wake condition. the only thing common is it is always at slow idle speeds.
Electrical short? Bad sensor? anything else I am missing?

Any Ideas before I start premixing ( I would prefer NOT to have to do that)

Thanks
Toddah

Re: 1992 Johnson Tracker 60hp sounding alarm sometimes

after inspecting the motor tonight I am seeing some slight oil film down near the bottom of the oil pump. I am not sure if it is a leak in the line or the mating surfaces of the pump. after reading some tech notes on a mercury sight about small leaks in the oil pump line causing alarms I am wondering if my pumps need a rebuild kit.
What do you think?
