Cut the hose to the vro tank off at the motor and plug it up good with something,REAL GOOD!. Disconnect barrel connector that plugs into the vro, this will disable the alarm. Mix 50-1 and enjoy. The alarm you heard could be a few different things, overheat, low oil, no oil. Good Luck!

speedywrtn,What is the description of the alarm you were getting.Steady tone, rapid short tones, one tone every 30 or so seconds?First thing you need to do is to verify which alarm you were getting and go from there.Your John/Rude dealer should be able to supply you with a sticker that will help you to identify your engines alarms and their symptoms.

Disabling the vro and mixing at 50:1 is fine ,but if your engine is overheating or there is a fuel restriction, other problems will soon surface.

Re: 1992 JOHNSON FASTSTRIKE OIL INJECTION

Sounds like the rapid short tone alarm which indicates the no oil alarm from vro. This can be caused by several things to include water in vro reservoir, restricted pickup in reservoir, air leaks in oil hose from reservoir to pump inlet, defective oil reservoir primer bulb, defective reservoir flow vent, or even a failing vro pump.First thing you'll want to do is to mix at 50:1 in your fuel tank to prevent engine damage.

If you choose to disable the oiling feature of the vro ,the fuel half works just fine as a 50:1 pumper. This is providing the air motor dirve and fuel pump portion of the vro is in good operating order. You'll also need to disable the vro alarm wire harness that leads from the vro pump. Then you'll need to disconnect the two wires from the oil reservoir. This will disable the vro alarms.Make sure and blank off the oil inlet to vro pump securely.

If youy choose to leave the vro in service you'll need to assure that the reservoir is clean as well as the pickup tube in reservoir. Then, with the oil inlet to vro hose disconnected ,pump the oil reservoir bulb until solid air free oil weeps out. Then reconnect and run engine with 50:1 mixed in fuel tank as well as the vro in service until you can verify oil usage from oil reservoir. You can detect usage by marking a line at the oil level with a permnenant marker and noting how much the level drops after you have used around 6 gallons of fuel or more.

To disable the vro alarms disconnect the 4 wire harness at it amphenol plug connector.Secure the two loose ends.Trace the two wires by color from the oil reservoir to their plug connectors under the engine cover and disconnect them and secure the loose ends. This will disable the low oil level alarm.

Re: 1992 JOHNSON FASTSTRIKE OIL INJECTION

THANK YOU FOR YUR TIME AND I WILL TRY THAT AND LET YOU KNOW. ALSO RIGHT BY THAT AREA THERE IS A SMALL WHITE PLASTIC PIECE THAT HAS 2 WIRES COMING FROM IT ONE IS TAN AND THE OTHER IS BLACK .....CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT THIS IS ? REASON I AM ASKING IS THE TAN WIRE IS HOOKED UP BUT THE BLACK ONE IS NOT AND I COULD NOT FIND THE OTHER END THAT LOOKED LIKE SHOULD CONNECT TO IT. THANKS AGAIN FOR YUR TIME.

On my engine ,the tan and black leads are the low oil in reservoir alarm leads .Describe the small white plasic piece and whatever it connects to.

Re: 1992 JOHNSON FASTSTRIKE OIL INJECTION

IT IS ABOUT 1-2 INCHES ABOVE THE VRO ON LEFT SIDE, 2 WIRES COMING FROM THAT LOOKS LIKE EPOXIED IN, ONE BLACK HOSE ALSO THAT GOES UP TO WHAT I THINK IS THE VRO PART OF THE SYSTEM RIGHT ABOVE WHERE THE FUEL LINES COME OUT TO FILL EACH SIDES OF THE CARBS. ONE WIRE IS TAN AN OTHER IS BLACK (BUT IT IS NOT HOOKED UP ).

Re: 1992 JOHNSON FASTSTRIKE OIL INJECTION

I believe that is your fuel vacuum switch for the fuel restriction alarm.Seems someone has disconnected one wire or it was never hooked up.The fuel restriction alarm and the overheat are both constant tone alarms.
