1992 Johnson 40, Stator - Rectifier/Regulator problem?

Hi all -

I am working through rectifier/regulator/stator troubleshooting and have one quick question.

Could I cause damage to the stator if I run the engine for an extended period of time with the stator wires disconnected? I'd protect the wires from shorting obviously.

My problem is that I have a family vacation coming up in a few days and if I had too I would run the engine without the charging system, but I don't want to damage the stator in the process. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dale

Disconnect and insulate the yellow leads and it should be no problem.
