I have a water pump kit that i am trying to put in but the gear case is stuck. I have the shifter linkage taken apart inside where the water intake screens are. I have all four bolts taken out and i have the nut taken off the stud in the upper front of the gear case. This thing wants to come apart but it appears to be stuck in the front where the stud is. The back of the case is apart and it moves a little but the front just won't budge. I can move the gear case very slightly side to side and it appears the front stud is not moving. Its almost like the front stud is corroded in or something. I have sprayed it for the last to days with a couple of different bolt remover sprays to no avail. i have carefully been tapping on it to get it apart and nothing. I even put the nut back on the stud and and tried hitting it and nothing. Any ideas?

Use a propane torch to heat the area around where the stud is.---------There is a guide tube / dowel that may be stuck.--------You do have the little black plastic keeper out ?

Ok so I tried the propane torch a few times and still nothing. I have the shift shaft separated and the plastic keeper off and the upper nut remove. This darn thing is still completely stuck at the front stud. It's almost like I need to remove something else but I have everything unbolted and this thing should come apart. I have been spraying penetrating lube on that stud all weekend and nothing seems to help. I have only done a few of these before but I have never had this much trouble. I can't hardly believe it but it did appear to me that this case has never been split apart and it is a 1992. The only other thing I was thinking that I might try is if I can double nut that front stud I wonder if I can try and turn it completely out unscrewing it from the gear case side??? Thanks for the input racerone!! If anyone has any other ideas please give me a shout.

Sounds like it is jammed with corrosion at the stud / dowel tube there.---Nothing else needs to be undone !---Hopefully it is not the driveshaft rusted into the crankshaft.---Use more heat or perhaps a hacksaw at the joint to cut the stud.

Try an acy/oxy torch on that front area and give it a raps wit a big rubber mallet.

There is lots of metal there to heat up.----Try pouring boiling water on there and then heating some more with a torch.
