Have owned this Bayliner boat and motor for the past year and a half, no problems whatsoever. Suddenly for the past two months the motor will not start when cold, the bulb pumps full and hard, the motor turns over freely, I have spark, the plugs are new, the electronic choke is working. I just replaced the kill switch. I can smell a strong odor of gas. I keep trying to start, nothing. If I let it stand for 30 min to an hour it will start right up in neutral position, no choke. Any attempts to start before letting it sit are to no avail. Mechanic at Marina has no idea what is wrong only saying something is going bad but has not gone completely bad yet? Once engine starts it runs and starts perfectly all day long with no problem. The next morning, no start again. I was told to try and start without pumping bulb but that did not work.

Re: 1992 Force 150 Outboard

Seems to be a popular problem with the early 90's Force motors, but happens to all of them eventually.
Sounds like a flooded condition, as evidenced by the gas smell.

Fuel pump is attached to side of powerhead/block. The diaphram inside deteriorates with age, and leaks into the powerhead while the engine sits. It floods out the bottom cylinder(s). Replace it even if it looks "ok".

You can buy a new fuel pump kit for about $12-16 from any Merc dealer. It comes with instruction sheet.

As the pump continues to fail, it will leak at a faster rate, not allowing you to restart the engine after stopping to fish for an hour.

Let us know if this fixes it.

Re: 1992 Force 150 Outboard

Thank you for your response, I will take your advice and replace/repair fuel pump. I am so frustrated that I will try anything. I thought fuel problem all along, but others leading me to think electrical, thus replacing kill switch. What is driving me crazy is how after finally starting it up it runs and starts so good all day then the next morning it just will not start. Today I went down and without squeezing the bulb it started right up. Hopefully your suggestion will solve the problem. I will certainly let you know, Thanks!!!!!!!
