Just bought a 1993 19' Crestliner (Aluminum hull/Deep V) with a 1992 Evinrude 150 (60 degree V6). I have put approx. 50 hrs on motor the last two months, no problems, motor runs great as of now. I am running a 3-blade 15X17 aluminum prop. Seems to have a good hole shot, tops out at 45mph (gps) @ 5400 RPM. Is it likely that I can increase acceleraation or top speed by switch to a different pitch or stainless prop ?? Do these motors have a good reliability history if properly maintained ??

Re: 1992 evinrude 150

The prop is your one gear you must always run in. You can change to whatever you like to change performance. Most want to, at WOT, keep the engine right under the rpm limit. This gives you the widest range of perfomance from one prop. But if you wanna change them for different applications, you can, just watch the tach closely!

Almost every outboard is reliable if properly maintained. Some have their lemons, but doesn't everything. Remember, it's a boat, not a car. You can't neglect a boat; like driving a car 8000 miles between oil changes. BTW proper maintenance means different things for differnt motors. The generic one's seem to need much more attention, luckily for you, Evinrude isn't generic. Good luck
