Hey guys, Have a 1992 Evinrude 140 that ran great all summer until Thursday night coming back into the dock she stalled out. She started again but running very rough.
Next day put the muffs on her and she started but was rough and backfiring through the exhaust. I was thinking carb adjustment but could be electrical, all the coils are good, compression ok, maybe stator
any advice appreciated

Check the flywheel key first.----Then post your compression numbers.----Then see if spark jumps a gap of 3/8" or more on each lead.

Not really backfiring....just missing.

I agree check compression and test for GOOD spark. Seems electrical.
