Good afternoon, reposting this as I have some updates.

Well did some hunting around in these forums, and feel like I am the only one that owns this boat.

1992 Chris Craft 252 Crowne
5.7 liter 350 OMC with King Cobra out drive.
Boat weighs 5800 lbs
My top speed was just about 24-25mph at 4100-4200 RPMS (WOT), does his sound bout right? 3/4 tank gas, 20 gallons of water.

Currently has a 4 blade on it, and literally takes FOREVER to get on top of the water, sometime doesn't even. Due to the prop age I cant tell what size or pitch is on the prop.

Thoughts? Ideas? Does any one own this same boat and have something that works for them?

Any help or ideas, would much appreciated.

Thanks and have a great day!

Not knowing your present prop size; I consulted the Mercury Marine prop selector and came up with a 15.5 X 17, using a 1.5/1.6 gear ratio.

I assume that motor should peak out at about 4800 rpm.

Your present prop size may appear under the prop nut.

Alright just ordered up a 15.5x17 3 Blade Aluminum, try this and if it works, grab 50-100 bucks for it and get a stainless steel one. Keeping fingers crossed!

Thanks for everyones help.

The details for that selection are: with a calculated weight of 6785 lbs, a pitch of 17.2 will result in an rpm of about 4600 @ 40 mph; which represents a 17% slip, realistic for a boat that size.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE (NOT GOOD) :(

So put the 15.5x17 3 blade prop on and this took me down to 2800 RPM's WOT, and just under 16MPH. Hmmmmm???? Where to go from here? Contacted Chris Craft and Original Prop that came with boat and that engine is a 15.5 x15 3 blade.

Thoughts?

Is this boat new to you? Has it ever ran faster? Something isn't right. Boat should be going much faster.

Try here for some answers.
