Anybody know anything about these boats? This one has twin 200 Yamaha w/ 175 hours. Do they ride wet and rough? I heard that Boston whalers ride wet. Any owners out there with first hand experience?

It's gonna be fast. I knew a guy who had that 27 footer with a 300 hp Evinrude and it was a rocket. I don't think it was overpowered, but it looked like it was with that big V-8 hanging off the back. He never really took it offshore though, had it mostly in the back bay, South shore Long Island. I'd see him in the inlet occasionally on calmer days. He pretty much went from one gas station to the next.

Great boats, one of the best.

They ride dry enough. Some of the smaller ones can be a little jarring to the innards.

Fishin Mission,

This is just an observation. I looked at one of them back in '91, when we bought our current boat. I liked the boat and was interested but simply could not afford it back then. However, and this is something for you to either consider or to ignore, Since that time I have never seen one of these boats off shore. Off shore fishing is about all I do. In the last 13 years I've seen just about every make and model of boat that ever fished out there, but I don't remember seeing one of those Whalers. I have been fishing almost exclusively from the Outer Banks of North Carolina during that time. Ocassionally I see these boats near shore and I see them inshore, I notice them because I had an interest in them back when I was looking around. Anyway it may or may not mean anything. It could be a regional thing, it could be that I just wasn't paying much attention.

Thom

i'll somewhat agree with thom. while i don't fish offshore, my father-in-law does regularly off the coasts of florida and the bahamas. while he regularly sees intrepids, contenders, regulators, jupiters, and grady's, he doesn't see many whalers offshore. not too say it means they are a bad boat for that purpose. just another observation.

Re: 1992 Boston Whaler 27 Offshore

I seem to recall a promo press release from BW in the late 80s that a Whaler was the first outboard powered boat to win a big billfish tournament in the Bahamas. Don't remember if it was a 27 or a 31.

Well, whatever. I have fished offshore and crossed the Gulf Stream in 16' and 18' Whalers. The question about whether a 27 is suitable for offshore is a zero brainer, so long as she has a competent pilot at the helm. As long as the red flag is not flying I would not hesitate.

That is a Dougherty designed, unsinkable Boston Whaler hull. They never came any better.

I guess you are looking at the one on ebay. The last time I looked at her she was a steal.

Good luck. :)

you dont see many whalers out there cause they cost more than the others ,, all the boats out there are sound and well made boats ,,, whalers are just stronger pound for pound and lighter than any other massproduced boat sold today,,they are tough,,im sure my whaler would go places if i had the nervs to go along ,,any whaler is worth the price when the chips are down ,,your boat should be the last thing you have to worry about surviving

I know it has been awhils since I posted. I purchased the boat and since have made 3 canyon runs (85 miles one way)with the boat. The boat handles the offshore run great. The best thing is she holds 310 gallons of gas so fuel is not a concern for these trip. By the way, the third trip offshore I saw a guy in a 28 Whaler trolling next to me.

Hi Fishn' Mission

I have a 1992 Offshore as well. I am currently trying to sell it as I want to move up to a slightly larger boat. Where was the boat you bought located?
DO you know of anyone interested in one of these....I have over 100 pictures available

Try the Marketplace forum on continuouswave.com, too 27OS. Lots of Whaler fans hang out there and the buying/selling is usually pretty quick.
