Okay, I was excited to pick up my new (18 year old) 90hp Yami and figured it would be a simple plug and play operation as I was replacing an old, blown 130 1996 Yami.. Yeah, that was a poor assumption.

Got the 10 pin main harness hooked up (pretty obvious connection) but now I'm looking for the tach connector and low and behold, there is none..

Looking around the engine pan I see a pink/orng/blck wire and terminal butt connectors

And a seperete set of grn/grn wth red stripe wires again with term butt connectors which lead back to the oil reservoir.

I'm thinking some where along the way someone buggered up the wiring perhaps to accommodate some other gauges. One of the green wires has four splices into it and is run through some type of seliniod..

I have tons of Yamaha wire harnesses and round/square adaptors laying around.. I just don't know where to hook them up..

Any ideas?

Okay.. figured it out..

Grn and Grn/R are my oil senders and the O/P/Blk are my trim indicators..

Who else knew the tach connects to the back of the key switch?? I looked all over that dang outboard for the past two days looking for a dark green wire.. (learn something new everyday)

Thanks again for all the help!

Sam, here is some Yamaha Info that will help.
Re: Yamaha 90 2 stroke wiring.

Re: Yamaha 90 2 stroke wiring

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
on the main harness, yellow is key on 12v, red is constant 12v, brown is start, pink is alarm audible, gray is alarm visual,
green is tach send, dark blue is choke,
ltblue is trim up, lt green is trim down and white is engine kill,
black is ground.

on yamaha wiring dark green is tach send, pink is alarm send in the 10 pin harness gray is overheat visual, black is ground yellow is key on 12v+ red is constant fused 12V supply, brown is start and white is engine kill.
lt blue is trim up and lt green is trim down and dark blue is choke and may not be used on all applications even though its in the harness.
on the trim meter orange if using a 3 wire sender is a 5V reference, pink is trim pick off voltage and black is ground.
2 wire trim only uses pink and black although the orange is still in the trim hrness.
green on the trim/oil harness is oil level ok send or green lamp, green/red is oil alarm visual for low engine tank level.
remember with one exception all yamaha functions are done by completeing the ground path, the exception being yellow lamp for tank level low on certain engines.
yellow lamp is a function of a ground loss on the green wire to the oil level guage.
