1992 5HP Tohatsu , Neep Impeller

My nephew has what I think is a 1992 NS5B. It's either a 2003+ or a 1992 and a guy told me that the paint scheme and setup is a 90's version so it must be 1992 or around there 5HP.

All surrounding hardware it very good and I think he can get away with just a Impeller but I cant find just impellers for 5HP.
Just 8HP and above.

I think this is it's P/N 36965-0210M IMPELLER
But Im unsure, I need some help.


I can find a total kit at InternetOutboards.com but He/I want to save some $$$ right now. Trust me I used to always replace ALL surrounding hardware when doing water pumps but they are pristine including the housing/cup.

Impeller is 369650211M, you missed by one, you have also housing gaskets, change if severly worn, dried, hardened. Sometimes it's difficult to change housing liner, if still in good condition, get a very used 3M scothbrite green pad, damp it, apply any thoothpaste and polish complete internal liner in circular motion with finger, include lower guide plate, repeat treatment untill all small lines, micropores dissapears, place a new impeller, will pee water as a teenager again.

Nice little trick man, It's nice to be able to spend the least amount of $$$ and still get %110 results !

Im gonna have to wait for him to come back down with my Dad in a couple of weeks, he's gonna the 5HP with him. It will be a good Uncle/Nephew project. Im gonna let him do all the work this time and just supervise.

He says the gaskets and housing/ liner is all good to go. *BUT* I want to inspect. I know what it is to want to slap something together to save time/money when your 16 and you want the motor running now.

Impeller $20-$25
Kit $50-$55
$30 difference , it's either going to work or he will have to spend a total of $80 just to do the water pump.

Hola Damian,

If you are going to do the entire work this trick can save you money, if you don't have any mechanical skills and must rely on a shop that's different story, due to labor cost a complete water kit change is mandatory as will probably be useless to change just impeller for the same hand labor fee. Try it, works very well and impeller last loooonger pumping smoothly.

Don't do a barn job. Do the complete kit. A few extra dollars, same labor, lots better pumping, and lasts longer.

What Paul said. If the wearplate or liner have the slightest imperfection it will shorten the life of the new impeller. It's just not cost effective to save the few dollars at the risk of burning up the engine.
