I started another post on this, but i think i framed my question wrong so i deleted it. Anyway, after doing some work on my 20 hp lower unit, upon replacement of the LU the shift rod is now way to long. i know this because when i bolt everything on, the shifter (this is a manual tiller motor) is pushed all the way into forward. I cannot shift to neutral or reverse as there is no travel along the shifting rod to allow for it.

I am assuming i simply need to adjust the length of the shift rod and i will be all set. I believe i created this problem when taking the LU off, as it took me a while to get the linkage apart from under the intake screens. I very stupidly did this last, so at one point the entire LU was supported by the shift linkage. Is it possible i pulled something out too far on the LU/shift rod?

any help is appreciated
