Hi Guys, Im revisiting this issue since it only shows unload and not in the tank, and Im on a dock now. The motor starts and idles OK, well, she idles as good at an engine that large wants to. From 3500-5400 runs fab, but from 1200 on up shes missing like a plug gets fouled (seems like one)then eventually itll clear itself after a while at higher RPMs. If I go straight from idle to WOT she kicks a#% and the Mako20 planes right out. When looking at the plugs, they are always wet, a few are darker than the others, one looks perfect tan like it should. Do I have a stuck float, VRO issue, or is it electrical? Where to I begin? (this is the same engine I replaced the head/exhast gasket and thats fine now) Theres been alot changed on this engine including stator & regulator.

TIA!

mikec

Do you have timing light?

Yup, I do, but its hard to beleive that it runs so well at some RPMS, the things pushes 50+mph, could the timing be off and still have that kind of performance? Also, last compression check all numbers were good.

Connect timimg light, run engine in rpm range that problem accurs. look at light, if engine is misfiring the light will be blank each time that cylindre misfires, check all cylinders, if light clean and bright, ignition system ok, go to fuel.

OK, test done. I went back out on the river and tested each plug wire with the timing gun, all looked the same, no dropouts that I could detect visually, either at idle or at misssing RPMs. (my best guess was 8-10 pulses/second per wire near missing RPM) Interesting, after WOT and the engine "cleared" itself from missing, I shut her off immediatly and pulled the plugs - they looked nice and tan and clean like, text book. So now... fuel... Where do I look now, carb throats? Could VRO be sending wrong mix?

TIA - mikec

Link & Sync, idle timing, themostats, You can pul air box cover off and see if carb plates open together, and remove small flat plate with 4 screws from side of carbuator and check gasket, which covers passage ways for idle and mid range. Fuel pump pressure at idle. I am guessing here .

IT'S FIXED!!!! The key was your post relating to the carb covers. Some of the screws were not as tight as I thought they should be. Also, seems like some of the carb bolts should have been tighter. I torqued them up and waaa-laaa! She purrs through all RPMS perfectly!

Air leakage in the power range robbed her.

Thanks -
mikec
