image.jpgHappy Easter folks. I have a question regarding a hole in the lower unit of a 15hp Johnson. The hole isn't threaded, but its leaking a little oil and water after having ran it in a barrel for a little while. The hole in question is in the (port side) tiller arm side just above of the prop gear housing. Is this a usual occurrence? If not what's necessary to correct the issue? I TIG welded an 1/8th inch thick piece of 6061 aluminum to the lower part of the skeg and it only took approximately a minute to do, and the housing didn't get hot enough to do any seal damage I don't think. Thanks in advance for your time and expertise

That is a weep hole to let water out so it can't freeze in the winter and bust something. Water and unburned 2 sroke oil.

Well that just makes perfect sense. Kinda emabarasing not having thought of it myself. To my knowledge none of my other older OMC outboards have one. I thank you for your reply, and I can rest easy that it is in fact normal. Again many thanks, and Happy Easter to everyone on the boards.
