I think you may need to have it checked out. Perhaps you're having a fuel supply issue and the higher RPMs are causing it to run lean on fuel. Just guessing. If you start off and give it just barely not enough throttle to get on plane (just push as much water as possible) does it do okay? I would think that would use more fuel than 5000 RPM on plane. But if you always jump up on plane, the reservoirs on the carbs would support that extra fuel consumption for a minute.
So maybe a weak fuel pump, bad hoses, clogged carb or it could be that it's loading up and fowling the plugs at higher RPMs.
Regardless, I have two of the 130TX model (longer shaft). They have seen 6,000 without issue but I normally run them at 5200 (35MPH) with no issues at all.
