So, i thought i had a 1995 4 stroke 9.9 but i have a 91 4stroke 9.9 elec start. So i need help, it has a hell of a time starting cold and im not sure how the auto choke works on this engine. There is a clear cap that comes off and if i hold the plunger thats under the cap down it starts a bit easier (still not great tho) anyone have any ideas?

The mixture control on that carb is a mad scientist's nightmare. Had one years ago and couldn't get to first base without the manual.

From what little I remember there is a thermal switch and a vacuum operated valve (the one you depress for manual "choke") that give you enriched mixture when starting cold.

All I can suggest is get a manual. That will explain how it works and tell you how to troubleshoot it.
