Last 2 times I took my boat out the overheating alarm went off. Both times it went off when I went close to full throttle . Shut off engine and restarted and used it the rest of the day at lower throttle. It was peeing fine. Oil tank was full. I noticed my fish finder showed a message, "low voltage". Shut off engine and restarted multiple times throughout the day at different fishing spots so batteries couldn't have been that low. Could this be related? Can corroded connections or old batteries activate this alarm? Internet research seems to indicate sensor problem, thermostat problem or salt built up. Book says old oil or incorrect spark plug gap can also cause overheating. Plugs look O.K. If this engine has an oil filter, I don't know where it is. I simply add oil to the oil tank when it needs it. Any ideas?
