I am looking at buying a 1991 NS9.9 from a private owner. He says it does not have electronic ignition. If it doesn't have it, can I add it? There are three models NS9.9B which I think is a 4 stroke and NS9.9C andNS9.9D2. I am waiting for him to get back with which model it is. Also, I have the same year range Nissan (NS40C) already on the boat. I want to have the smaller engine for the small lakes. Will my steering connections bolt up to this smaller motor in the same year range? thanks

Re: 1991 NS9.9 Question

The 9.9's have had electronic ignition since the early 80's and no.

Re: 1991 NS9.9 Question

Thanks for the response Guru. Let me clarify my question. The motor does not have electronic start. I was wondering if it could be put on. As far as the steering is it simply having to buy a different adapter for the steering, shifting, and throttle conections.

Thanks

Re: 1991 NS9.9 Question

You mean electric start don't you? Yes, it can be added, but the cost would exceed the value of the engine....About $600.00 for the parts. You would need an SRC kit for the existing controls. Basically the engine is so old that anything you do it would not be cost effective.

Re: 1991 NS9.9 Question

Thanks for your insight. I am leaning towards a newer four stroke 9.9. Once again thanks.
