I am attempting to find out what is wrong with the engine listed above. From the beginning: I forgot to loosen the vent on the oil injection tank. The engine will get to about 4800 RPM and then it seems like some type of RPM limiter will not let me get past that rpm. It will actually cause the engine to lose RPM until about 3000 rpm. After I get to around 3000 rpm, I can accelerate back to about 4800 rpm and rpm limiting (?) will happen again. Any suggestions from anyone will be appreciated. If this is something simple, I would rather not put it in the shop to be repaired. Thanks,

Bill Sones,
New Orleans, LA
soneswl@datasync.com

Is your motor 4 or 6 cylinders?

I had a similar problem on my 100hp , 89 Mercury. A fuel pump kit was recommende and cured the problem. Intersting thing, one of the diaphragms was partially sucked through the aperture and the new diaphragm was considerably heavier material. It was a cheap fix too! Good luck. Grumps.

Thanks for the info. I am almost positive that it is a fuel delivery problem. I'm not much of a mechanic, so, I am putting it in the shop in the morning. Should have it back by the weekend. I will let you all know what the problem was when I get it back.

Thanks again for the info....

Bill.

I suppose I was wrong. The High Speed Stator was bad. Replaced it and now it runs outstanding! Material + Labor = 500 big ones! Thanks for all of the help.

Bill.

Ouch!! If my 100 has one of those, I hope it lives forever. Heaven knows what it would cost in $CDN. By the way, installing the fuel pump kit really is no big deal. Even for me. Grumps.
