I recently purchased a used boat that came with a 1991 Mariner 115 4 cylinder outboard. After messing around some with the engine I got it to start but was worried that only the top 2 cylinders were firing until I realized I have the 2+2 version (where only 2 fire at low rpms and all 4 at higher). After realizing this I did a compression check and found the top 2 cylinders were reading around 110 and the bottom 2 were just over 90. My question is whether this is due to the 2+2 design, or if it’s a bigger issue. Also any major problems to look out for on these outboards? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
