Hi Folks,
I have read a lot of good info on this site and decided to register. Forgive me if my questions are very basic, but I am learing how to repair my own problems...Its nice having the time to do that now. Anyway, I recently returned from a long trip and discovered that my electric motor, on the tilt/trim assembly, was overcome by the elements...meaning the rust ate through the tilt motor cover, rendering it useless...Anyway, I believe in giving Ceasar his due, but the $1100.00 to replace the entire assembly the local dealer quoted to me knocked me off my barstool! They won't replace just the electrical motor portion, but the entire assembly-piston, electrical motor and all...I'm no mechanic, but after taking off the motor assembly, cleaning up the rest, I see no reason to throw away the whole assembly. My question: Is there an alternate motor out there that will fit a 91 year model? I google and find a bunch of motors for a reasonable price, but they are for 92's and up, I dont know if they would fit or not... I'm on a tight military budget, and my boat, with the tilt trim working, may bring 2000.00, so buying the assembly from the Dealer @ $1100 is out of the question...Any help pointing me in the right direction would be most appreciated!
