I have a 1991 Force 120 on a 20' Bayliner & when I throw it all the way in reverse, the motor pulls itself out of the water. Idling is fine. Is there possibly not enough fluid in the pump or could the seals be going bad in the cylinders?

I have the same boat and motor as you and have never seen this issue. Is you trim all the way down when throwing into full reverse? Also, is this a 120HP L-Drive I/O? Do you have a Green Light on the right of the console or a T/T meter? If the light goes out, or the meter shows that the trim is moving, that could be a problem.

It's not an L-drive & it's all the way down when I put it in reverse, although, I think it should hold tight no matter what position.

You should have spring loaded check valves in the cylinder and the pump. They are to release if you would hit a rock at speed, and allow the motor to raise up. But they should keep the motor down unless you actually hit something. Sounds like the are stuck, and need repairs.

All the way in reverse is a bite much and very hard on the system. You want it to hold down, then if you hit a rock you want it to release.
