Re: 1991 Evinrude 50hp VE50TLEIA
I have a repair manual in the mail...so hopefully that answers my question when it gets here.
I'm trying to figure out the gear ratio because I'm considering putting on a smaller prop (trying to do all the numbers). I have this 50hp rude on a 900lb 15' glass v-hull. Prop that's on there is a 11 3/4 17p. At WOT with average load, I hit 28mph @ 4900rpm. Boat is kind of slow to get up and go. Owners manual for the motor says rpm range is 4500-5500. I was thinking of trying a 15p prop and hopefully get closer to 5500rpm and have a faster plane.
If the rpm range is 4500-5500, is it best to stay in mid-range (i.e. the 4900 I'm getting now)? Or, should I shoot for the max 5500rpm?
I'm a newbie boater, so any advice is appreciated.
