I think the battery is dead but I can't open the hatch to change the battery. Hatch is a hydrualic type which is operate by the battery I think. Is there another way around this problem? I checked all the fuzes they all seam to be ok.

I going to assume that you made I typo and meant to say Hatch...I'm not sure about your model, but a friend of mine, has a small access hole on the same side the ram is on this will allow him to pull a quick release pin, so the ram will seperate from its bracket allowing the hatch to be raised manually, his access is located at the back of the 'side pocket' at the rear bench seat or the under gunnel storage area..

hello
what make of boat is this. carolina classic and albermarle have bypass valves. the rinker and some of the othe electrics have a pullpin. some of the pull pins are not accessible. in that case I find the red batt wire at the ign switch and charge the battery from there
good luck and keep us posted
the two most populars hatchlifters work differently. one is electro hydraulic the other is electric ball screw.

It's a 1991 Chapparal. How do I charge the battery from the ignition switch? That sound promising.

you can charge the battery from just about anywhere on you boat. all you need is a ground and an positive circuit. The ground is USUALLY any wire that is black. the positive feed can be found on anything that doesn't require the engine to be running. the B terminal on the ignition switch is a good candidate. But you can also use the memory wire to a radio, fishfinder, vhf, etc. flip the switch on the nav light, anchor light, blower, etc and if you hook up the battery charger there it works too (just not as fast because of the added draw from the acc's) Be creative (NOT too creative or you'll fry or burn something). If your battery charger has a jump start feature: DON'T USE IT! The wiring would be instantly overloaded by the starter current. I would start charging the battery with the lowest setting on the charger, leave it until it has enough juice to get the engine hatch open, then hook it up there at the battery and bump up the amps. have fun.

sometimes the boat manufacturer has thought far enough ahead, and has put battery terminal lugs under one of the rear seats, so that one would be able to charge, or jump a dead battery and open the engine cover..

Scott..
