I HAVE A 1991 225 HP YAMAHA, MODEL: 225TLRP. ON A 1992 226 J.C. TRITOON WITH 42 GALLON BELLY TANK
I HAVE ONLY OWNED THE BOAT ABOUT 1 - 2 HOURS AND RAN FINE WAS RUNNING AT LOW SPEED AND WHEN GOT READY TO TAKE OFF ENGINE GOT UP TO 4900 RPM AND AFTER ABOUT 3 MINUTES IT DIED DEAD IN THE WATER. MAYBE OUT OF GAS GOT TOW TO MARINA AND TANK WAS FULL. THE ENGINE WAS CRANKING OVER FINE AFTER APPROX. 1/2 HOUR BOAT STARTED. RAN ABOUT 4 MILES AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND ATE LUNCH, GOT BACK IN BOAT AND STARTED RIGHT UP WENT ABOUT 6 MILES AND SHUT DOWN AGAIN WOULD NOT START CRANKED FINE. GOT TOWED BACK TO DOCK AND AFTER ABOUT 2 HOURS MOTOR STARTED UP. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS????? :mad: :(

Re: 1991 225 YAMAHA

Howdy, RR.

Two things that can cause your problem are;

1. Lack of venting in the fuel tank, causes the fuel pump to suck a vacuum in there until it can't suck any more. Easy and cheap to fix.

2. "Hot short" in your ignition system. Stator, trigger or powerpak fail when heated up. When it cools it works again. This is expensive to fix, so prove it first. Heat the ignition systam, one piece at a time with a hair dryer or heat gun (while running). When it quits, you just heated a part that needs replacing.

Good luck. :)
