1991 150vro rebuild?

While i'm waiting for my crank to come back from the shop, i rebuilt the rest of my carbs and began wondering about looking into the vro. The carbs were spotless and the oil side of the vro has been disconnected. I know there's a float assembly in the vapor separator, as well as misc diaphrams. Is it wise to start tearing this thing apart or bolt it back on when i'm finished rebuilding and use a fuel pressure/vacuum gauge to test it?

The crank is coming back after doing what? Why did'nt the rod's go with it? What kind of failure are we talking here?

The crank was sent for new splines as mine were rusted. Looks as if the driveshaft o-ring didn't do its job. The double lower bearing seal looks alright, but i'm replacing it anyway. As far as the vro, the previous owner had disconnected it. Maybe that's why all cylinders are .030 over. Hmmm. I can only spectulate as to why, but it would seem to be lubrication related. Anyway, I'm rebuilding it now due to a glue seam leak on the #1 cylinder. There doesn't appear to be any damage to the crank, but the shop will confirm this.

I sent it to Precision where they pressure tested it first to find the exact location and then welded a 3" line beginning right below the rectifier. Only time will tell if holds. For a $125, i figured its worth the chance. Anyway, should i assume the vro is good as far as the air and fuel pump? I can hear the float open and close when turn it upside down, and given the carbs were spotless, is it worth tearing into it or reinstall it and pressure/vacuum test it? Thanks for your time.

They are a very simple device, consisting of an air motor, springs, oil piston rod, and diaphrams.<br /><br />While in the process of doing my rebuild I took my VRO apart, checked it over and ordered the diaphram replacement kit.<br /><br />After reading the book on how to test it with a vacuum gage and 15psi from my air compressor mine is in good working order. You can test it right on the bench out of the motor.<br /><br />Do you have a manual?

If the guys at Precision fixed it then I'm sure its OK. They'll heat it and pressure check it after the weld. I'd bet youre good to go on the block.

Zantz<br /><br />I do have a service manual...it's an absolute must if you're a diy'er. I've read through the procedure, but I like to find out about personal experiences to avoid potential surprises the manual may not mention. There is no part number for the VRO rebuild kit in my parts manual, but it does say its available in the accessory catalog. Any idea what it might be?

www.maxrules.com has the rebuild kits. Search for vrorebuild on their site.<br /><br />I have an original service manual and it showed how to completley disassemble and reassemble the VRO. I was nervous, also, because they are so expensive. After tearing into it, it was easy.
