Ok guys, I have a 1991 150 hp Evinrude XP. There is a terminal block with 5 terminals. The #1 terminal wire gets scorching hot, this would be the tanish colored wire that goes into a black box located under the back of the flywheel. Any ideas what would be causing this??

When you say "tarnished colored wire" I gotta guess that it's yellow. The yellow wire and the gray and yellow wire are AC voltage from the altenator. If the yellow wire is hot, it's got high resistance some where. It might be a loose or corroded terminal on that strip or, I guess, it could be the rectifier. Not sure. If you've got a shop manual, it'll give tell ya how to trouble shoot the altenator, rectifier and regulator.

c/6
Hooty

The Tan wire is #1, the yellow wire is on the #2 terminal. The connection is good, I cleaned and tightened, but Im not the smartest person in the world on outboard motors. Ill check on the rectifier, regulator and alternator. Thanks.
