I got this motor as part of a package last year and just started it today. I saw no water coming from the tell tale so I shut her down. How long does it normally take to squirt water at idle?

Hi Baybum,

Welcome to iBoats.

Those engines have big water passages, and do take quite a long time to fill up. The best thing to do is have the engine running with your fingers touching the exhaust covers. If they get hot, you have a problem.

Chris..........

I have a 1988 Blk Max. It takes a few minutes for water to come out of the tell-tale. At firse it sputters then a steady stream comes out. Was the water pump rebuilt recently? If not it would be a good time for it to avoid any problems.
Dead Eye
