1991 140 3.0 litre no power

please help my 1991 140 hp 3.olitre is in need of help.Starts great Idles good but last year on wot speed was 45mph.This year at wot 32.also the engine is much louder,like a roaring sound.I'm suspecting the carb.what do you guy think?also anyone know what rebuild kit to use.Thanks

You would want to look at the exhaust flapper. This is located in the 'down tube' of your exhaust. Pull off the riser and look to see if there is still a flapper there. The pin it was on should still be there. Sometimes they melt, or just wear out and fall down into the outdrive. This will plug up the exhaust, robbing power.<br />Hope this helps.
