Hi all,

Here's a good one for you... I have a recently rebuilt 100 HP V4 commercial model (J100WTLEIB) that runs rich most of the time. I haven't been too concerned about that as I am still breaking it in. But one interesting thing is that when cruising along on a plane, during a left hand turn when the boat is listed to port, the engine smooths out and picks up RPM. When I straighten out or list the boat to starboard, it goes back to misfiring slightly.

Am I right to suspect the float level is too high? What else could cause this?

(Carburetor Float Setting)
(J. Reeves)

With the carburetor body held upside down, the float being viewed from the side, adjust the float so that the free end of the float (the end opposite the hinge pin) is ever so slightly higher (just ever so slightly off level) than the other end. And when viewed from the end, make sure it is not cocked.

Thanks guys. I think I set the floats up level when I rebuilt the carbs (of course I didn't have the official gauge used by the procedure in the manual).

I'll try a little lower and report back.

Well, I pulled the carbs off... the floats are not cocked from side to side. Both are level (didn't take pics from the front but they are level). Here are the side views.

Top carb:

Bottom carb:

The top carb float may be just a micro-c-hair higher (closer to level) than the bottom carb... could such a tiny adjustment be the problem? Are these both too high?
