1990 Yamaha Waverunner stop switch problem...

My 1990 Waverunner has a red stop switch button that I have traced to be shorting out...I think?? This is not the laynard switch, but rather the red stop button.
I can unplug the stop switch under the steering column and it cranks right up and runs great, but in order to stop/kill the engine I have to plug the connector wire back together. How do most folks handle this problem...I am assuming they replace the stop switch with a new switch, but I have read that you can also take the switch apart and clean and blow out the inside portion because it can get wet inside.
Any input is much appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: 1990 Yamaha Waverunner stop switch problem...

Okay, I figured it out...
It was not the kill switch or tether switch, but it was the button that engages the tether switch being too long...
I removed the tether switch button because it was too long and the horseshoe shaped tether wrist key would not lift the switch up high enough to allow the switch to be normally open and start the engine...
So, now I will have to do some dremel tool work to modify and shorten the plastic button in order to allow the switch to work correctly...
I have a pair of these Yamaha's and the other one work fine...
I hope this helps someone...
