Hello. Heres The story on my Yamaha sterndrive. At the start of the season, i had the carb rebuilt by a local shop that is known for doing very good carb work. It ran great! Now... after the boat has been sitting for about a month, I took it out to the lake and couldn't get it to start. Its getting lots of fuel, as i have already checked that. It starts very hard and when it does it will only 4 or 500 rpms and just chugs. Sounds like a built engine with a big cam. It wont rev up and if you let back on the throttle it dies. Last year, I also replaced the fuel pump.

Im not a brain on these engines since I am a diesel mechanic, but I do know a little. Is it me or is yamaha ahead of there time with the ignition on this thing?
ANY help would be great, and thank you for taking the time to read my post. it seems its the only ways to get info nowadays with getting charged up the ........;)

I have the 4 cylinder yammie, so I dont know much about the 5.7, my my first thought when i read your post was, water in the fuel? But that's just a guess.

A quick thought. The shift interruptor switch isn't in a "made" position, is it?
otherwise sounds like it could be grotty fuel. During the carbie build was the small filter at the fuel inlet to the carbie cleaned or replaced? Could be some serious crud down there.
