I have a 1990 SeaDoo GT.

When I start out from the dock, and occasionally after a big set of hard wave hopping, the ski will bog down for a short time, then slowly come back up to speed.

Seems like either the engine is starved for fuel, or even flooded as I sometimes think I'm smelling gas. Otherwise, it runs pretty well & fast.

I got this thing back in March & have only been out with it twice this year & a few time last year. I have lubricated all the moving parts per the shop manual. I suspect the carbs are dirty, or low compression.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
ed

I had a similar problem with a 97 GS. It sort of seemed like it was low on fuel (you did check the fuel level right?) however, it was full.

It turned out to be that the exhaust had loosened up and was leaking into the engine compartment when turning and accelerating. As anyone that knows about two strokes, they need good exhaust back pressure to produce any power. Check all the exhaust connections just to be sure.

if you run the ski and you get smoke from under the seat the engine will bogg down bad pulling in exhaust fumes, however sea doo has bad fuel lines and are notorious for the lines plugging up the filters control valves and carbs. pull a hose and see if it has a goo around where it is clamped if so you probably need to go through the entire fuel system and replace all the hoses especially on a ski that old, also check the welded plugs on the exhaust manifold for water leaks and the gasket at the manifold for leaks or broken studs that is another common problem. those leaking will spray water on the plug wires and it won't run properly,, drive it with the seat off and peek inside look for water spraying around in it.

Good tips, I'll check this stuff out. Visually, everything seems ok.

I did find a small clear hose laying by the carbs. The end has an impression as if it once was on a fitting. I can't seem to see anything obvious it was connected to. I checked all around with a compact mirror and a dental mirror...

Again, I'll start checking the stuff you guys suggest.

Thanks,
ed

You may have some water in your fuel tank, all the bouncing around will mix it up and cause it to be pulled in the fuel lines, I would pull the sending unit and see if there is any water settled in the bottom of the tank
