1990 OMC 5.7 Fuel Pump

My fuel pump has gone south on my 1990 OMC 350

Being a GM 350 at heart, I was wondering if you can use a generic mechanical GM 350 fuel pump or do you have to pay the $150+ to put a factory one back on?

Does anybody have experience with this or tried it before?

Ayuh,.... Don't use an automotive fuel pump,... They're vented into the bilge,...

A Marine pump is vented into the carb's air flow,...
