I am looking at two boats for possible purchase. One has a 1990 Merc. 100 hp. The other has a 1990 Merc. 115 hp. Both are the "inline" cylinder motors. I would appreciate any comments on the reliability of this line of Mercurys....Thanks all

I just bought a 1995 Outboard Merc 100 but haven't taken it out yet. I heard through other sources that it is a very reliable motor and with proper maint. it will last a long time.

That could be a 2+2 motor. That will idle on 2cyls, then transition to all 4 at 1800-2200 rpm. Many people dislike these due to rough running in transition range and sudden power surge. I am unsure of what year they started the 2+2 b.s.

I think that also is a chysler design motor? But it was fairly reliable.

mbb, yes you are correct, it is a 2+2 motor. Easy on gas when you are just slow cruising too. The sudden power surge would be great when pulling a skier. I am taking it out for the first time tomorrow and will let you guys know how it goes.
