Hello,
I'm new to this board and have a few questions.
I'm looking at a boat with a '90 Mariner 25HP with electric start, the prop and skeg look to be in very good condition with little or no wear/chips and not bent.
--Are there any known problems with this year/HP motor?
--Is it American or Jap?
--Would it be enough motor to push a Sea Nymph 142 with 2 people?
--What is the approximate value on the motor? (It is a a dealer with a '90 Sea Nymph 142 and a rusty trailer with 10" wheels and no trolling motor or battery for $2695.)

Thank you very much to all that reply,
Chad.
chad4372@yahoo.com

buying a used boat and motor is scary, and we can give you all the advise in the world however we are not there, you are.
Can you try the boat out ?
have you heard it run ?
does it look like it is leaking anything anywhere?
Check the lower unit, check the gear oil ,is it dark or milky? when was the last time it was in the water?,how is the impeller?
is the prop chipped , when it turns is it straight.
does the boat leak, or dented?
does the motor start right up?
do you like it ?
Do you think you will be happy with it?
is it worth the price as far as you are concerned? :) :)

$3,800.00 will get you an electric start v-14 w/ 25hp merc and trailer BRAND SPANKING NEW from Tracker and ya can work a better price out with them on top of that and finance it for up to 5 years @about 70.00/mo........Personally, I would not pay more than about $1,200.00 to $1,500.00 unless it's a cream puff for what your looking at. To give you an idea of its wholesale value; bank depreciates 20% per year then will generally not finance after 5 years. ITS 12 YEARS OLD........
