Hello everybody,
I started a thread about this motor over a year ago. I got frustrated and put the boat away. I have started to play with it again. I left off last year with no spark, so I guessed it was the cdi unit and replaced it.The boat started right up, I let it run for a couple of minutes and noticed it getting hot by touching the side of the motor, then there was water leaking out of the thermo housings. I shut it down and pulled the housings, the thermostats were melted. I pulled the heads and checked the cyclinders for discoloration everything looked ok. New head gaskets and thermostats put it back together. I went to start it and discovered the motor wouldnt quite go 1 turn and stop. I could turn it counter clockwise all day long. go clockwise almost one turn and it stops. Has any one ever heard or seen anything like this?
Thanks

I am guessing we are working on a V-block engine, which one, model number?

Re: 1990 johnson has problems

Just started to play with this motor again. Started to take it apart and found the upper bearing had broken and the bearings and a piece of metal was laying on the crank weight and stopping the motor from turning
