1990 Johnson 200GT thermostat (which way)

I have a 200 Johnson and the thermostat housings are in the heads, but there's no thermostats in them. Which way do the new thermostats go in? It's not obvious whether the fat end or the skinny end faces the block? I cannot find any literature on this at all. Thanks out there if anyone knows the answer.
