I've found a one owner 1990 GT 150 for $1600. 95 PSI on all 6! I was talking to some of the members in our bass club that said these were problem engine for Johnson and was one of the reason they when under. Can someone advise me about this engine? Has anyone got one of these motors? Do you have problems finding parts for them? What's good about them and what's bad about them? Would you buy this engine? I have a 18.5 ft Shadow bass boat and it is rated for a 180HP. Would this engine work well with this rig? Thanks and God bless all for your help.:D

Re: 1990 GT 150 questions.

Not sure about any problems with this engine. 95psi seems a little low the manual calls for atleast 100 psi and not to exceed 15psi betwwen all of them. Its more inportant to have an even reading than the higher reading. As far as pushing your rig should not be a problem. Take into account the prop pitch, engine settings on the transom.

Re: 1990 GT 150 questions.

Motor is at a Mariner and they say the motor fire and run great and the lower unit checked out good also. The owner want to up-grade to larger engine. I was on another site and a Tec. said that he has seen these 1990 GT come from Johnson with 95 PSI and they ran fine. I'm just trying to an engine to get me thur at least two mre years, until I get all my kids out of college. Thanks to all and may God bless.

95 lbs is fine on that motor with those heads. Whoever told you this motor is the reason OMC went under is one of the most misinformed people around. The crossflow V4 & V6 were the mainstays for OMC for many many years. Old but very reliable technology. The XP / GT series crossflows had some excellent port timing and very good heads. True, they won't make near the torque of a looper but there is nothing wrong with that series motor.
