So I've got my dad's 1990 Evinrude 30hp E30TELES engine that I did a bunch of work on today. This forum was a great resource to rebuild the water pump and fix some other odds and ends.
One weird thing - when I tested the compression I got 135 on the top cylinder which seems reasonable but I got 180 on the bottom. From the research I've done, that sounds quite high. Would normally question low or no compression and suspect a head gasket etc, but what about high compression? Could it just be caked up with carbon?
