Hey Everyone,
I got this Stratos Bass Boat a while back with a 1990 Evinrude 150 XP 2 Stroke. I recently put on a brand new CDI and Stator because I had no spark. I checked after and was getting good spark. I tried starting and my starter was not disengaging. I then proceed to replace that old starter with a new one I had on another parts motor. It was brand new and immediately when I put it on and hooked it up, when I tried to crank it, everything shut off. It sounded like I blew a fuse (which had happened before) so I checked the fuse and it was intact. I checked my battery and wires to the battery and was good. I was getting 12 Volts to the starter solenoid and ground to the starter. I was also getting 6 V to my short 32 amp fuse located right after the solenoid (not sure if that is ok or not.) When I turn the key, there is no buzzer horn. No test horn. I have no power to trim and tilt. I have no power to the remote control box as well. I checked all connections and everything looks good. Is there something I am missing? Is there a checklist to troubleshoot. Am I overlooking something simple? I might suspect something with the shifter switch, but the fact that it was instant and nothing was touched other than my starter connections is confusing. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much.

So your getting 12 volts to the outboard from the battery?

That's a dead battery. Maybe you left something on.

Please clarify.

Just to clarify. All this work is being done at home. My battery is charged and even using a battery pack on top of it it is still making no noise. Even usually with an decharged battery it still made the test horn previously. I will switch the battery with another and charge just to triple check though. Thank you for your help!!!

What did your meter say it was?

the fuse off the solenoid must have 12v on either side just sitting there.

32 amp fuse seems big ?? recheck specs

fused power 12v MUST reach the key B post follow from solenoid post 12v to key's B post with a VOM of test lamp.

check all connections incl. main ground from battery to starter post and...ENGINE FRAME clean all surfaces.

T&T should work on it's own being feed of the battery side of solenoid see this 1989 diagram ...not 1990 but probabaly vey silimar to a1990 layout

check the fat plug..... clean all contacts ...!!!

Hi Everyone,
Figured out the problem. The main ground that connects to the starter was the problem. The thread inside the starter was corroded so I got that fixed but now I have another problem. When I try to start, my outboard flywheel kicks back on the starter every time it tries to start. And now I don't have spark again. I have a brand new cdi and stator so it cant be those. Thanks for your help.

the way to stop guessing and throwing $ away is to get an el-cheapo DVA adapter for your meter, coil extenders, and a stevens power pack load adapter but thats optional as the pack can be isolated as the issue by testing primary voltage w. terminal extenders, charge coil, and of course the sensor coil (trigger). very simple takes me about 15 min but you need the service manual. just follow the steps IN ORDER starting with disconnecting the black/yellow kill wire at the pack and try again. the starter kicking out sounds like a battery issue, ground issue, solenoid (drop test easy to test), or bad ground cable itself (just ohm it out against the red positive battery cable. should be a low # on both).
