1990 evinrude 120hp *steering hard*

The motor is hard to turn, my cable is new. I raised the engine up, and greased the fitting in the mid section. But it didnt loosen at all. Any suggestions????

Could there be a tension screw on the side of the motor? Probably on the port side? I think it'll have a small coil spring on the shaft of the screw to maintain tension on the screw.

OK, you need to do a couple of very simple tests, disconnect the steering rod that goes through the front of the motor and connects to the front, then try to move the motor back and forth by hand, it should be nice and free, if it is not, then you have a seized swivel bracket (probably from using the wrong grease) if the motor is free, turn the wheel and see if it is still tight, if it is, your helm is bad and needs replacing, let us know what you find and we can advise on how to fix.
